Cape Byron
It’s balmy all year in Byron Bay and the east coast enclave attracts visitors from far and wide. From in-the-know surfers to bare footed Nordic backpackers, it's an energetic hub for nature-curious travellers searching for off-grid freedom.
I spent a week here away from the temptaions of Melbourne and Sydney. The main goal was to deal with the logistical nightmare of swapping countries. Most of my days were spent inside working but I did manage to get out and explore a little.
I’ve included some recommendations below.
Coastal Walk
On my last day in Bondi the weather turned around and the sun finally showed up. I took the opportunity to walk the coastal route from Bondi to Coogee and back. I’ve included some recommendations below for a stay in the area.
Stay: QT Bondi (any room with a balcony)
Eat: Three Blue Ducks (Bronte), Iggy’s Bread (Bronte), Lox in a Box (Bondi)
Coffee: Gertrude & Alice (Bondi)
Hidden Figures
Sydney Opera House
Capturing a building covered in people that has been photographed millions of times was quite the challenge. What really struck me about the Sydney Opera House was the sheer size and unique geometry of the building. The 10 curved shells of the Sydney Opera House cling to the edge of Circular Quay as though ready to set sail in to Port Jackson. Each new angle reveals a different shape; seashell, armour plating, succulent, sail boat, and exotic fruit. A simple shape that revealed itself in many different ways.
