Cloud Forest

I'm taking advantage of the lull in my schedule to revisit my Australasia photos. I still have a ton to share and it's tricky doing it in a way that doesn't overwhelm. This photo set shows the Cloud Forest observatory, one of two observatories at Singapore’s Gardens By The Bay. The best time to visit is in the late afternoon when you can also catch the Supertree Grove light show at 7:45 p.m.

Lion City

I have been quite lucky to start the year off with 4-weeks of travel through Australia and Singapore. Given what happened right after, this is probably the last time I will be getting on a plane to go vacation for a while.

It’s been about 5.5 years since I was last in Singapore. That time I got stuck on the Malaysian border, it was Eid and everyone was trying to get through. This time I flew direct from the Gold Coast (OOL). The first thing I saw on arrival at Changi T1 was The Jewel. Typically it costs money to go inside but due to the drop in tourism it was free. My week in the Lion City was spent catching up with friends and exploring all the “new” attractions built for Singapore’s 50 year anniversary (2015).

I could probably talk your ear off about the amazing food in Kampong Glam, Little India, and Chinatown; the shopping in Orchard; or about the history and culture of the city, but i’ll let you see it through my 50mm lens instead. Below is a city guide I created based on some of the places and things I saw, ate, stayed at, etc.

Cape Byron

It’s balmy all year in Byron Bay and the east coast enclave attracts visitors from far and wide. From in-the-know surfers to bare footed Nordic backpackers, it's an energetic hub for nature-curious travellers searching for off-grid freedom.

I spent a week here away from the temptaions of Melbourne and Sydney. The main goal was to deal with the logistical nightmare of swapping countries. Most of my days were spent inside working but I did manage to get out and explore a little.

I’ve included some recommendations below.
